ACTORS ASYLUM PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS

With Ardyth Johnson
(Trained by Bouffon / Clown Masters
Philippe Gaulier and Jacques Lecoq)

Bouffon!

A week long performance intensive:
May 29 to June 2nd
Daily from 10am to 5pm at STUDIO 320

Bouffon is an adult performance style, an inverted clown of sorts, where a balance is struck between grotesqueness and charm. Bouffon focuses on the art of mockery and utulizes elements of taboo and the profane in its pleasure to mock and imitate the absurdities of the human being (we do strange things!). They get sheer joy at playing their opinions (and they tend to be exaggerated in their appearances!).

Participants will develop tools for creatng well-rounded characters with minimal information. Using play and the principle of Le Jeu - 'the game', students will uncover their inner Bouffon and the pleasure of being on stage. The workshop will culminate in a final presentation of the Bouffon ensemble.

One of the strengths of the Bouffon world is their sense of “gang”. There is no conflict within their group, and their safe, trusting power together allows each individual to flourish. For anyone who wants to release their hidden skills & talents the Bouffon tribe can help you. The power of the Bouffon ensemble cannot be undermined!

Cost for this workshop intensive is $250.00 and a deposit is required to secure a registration space.

Clown (mixed levels)

Weekend workshop: June 14, 15, 16
Fri 7-10pm, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 10am-5pm

Class Description: Through discovery of play (Le Jeu), you will discover the first steps towards finding your clown. Through play you find the pleasure it engenders and the imaginary world it unveils. The clown form is free of self-consciousness, can be eccentric or peculiar, and finds play in everything. This workshop will focus on discovering/developing your inner clown through "Le Jeu" (play) and working scenarios to explore your clown's personality and interaction with others.

Cost for this weekend workshop is $150.00 and will be held at STUDIO 320 - 70 Albert Street.
